Day 2 - Lining Up

I might as well build on the list I made at the end of yesterday’s of ‘sample thoughts’ I’ve had lately.

So, I recently got this book at Printed Matter Inc in NYC -

I’ve heard more than once that “Toronto loves a line-up” . We love to line up for brunch. And sneakers. I heard someone joke about joining line ups without knowing what they were lining up for, and I died inside a little at the earnestness.

My New Yorker friend asked me recently why I “hate Toronto” (her impression from my often critical and questioning insta posts about Toronto) - I don’t hate Toronto, but she’s been frustrating me for awhile.

What does being willing to wait in line mean? (I’m asking myself and working this out in my 20 minutes, by the way, I don’t have a grand conclusion ready to slide eloquently into)

When I got the performance art book on waiting in line, the first thing I thought of was Toronto. There is a bit of feeling of mindless hustle that happens here. You are a “weekend warrior” here - meaning, you work for the weekend. So you can… wait in line for late breakfast/early lunch? A “leakfast” that is fine, but often too salty with a coffee that requires cream and sugar or a tiny overpriced mimosa to cut the bitterness, and you leave smelling like griddle top, but it was a fun hang. The fun hang is important here, I’m not being facetious - of all the things that keep people in Toronto according to my instagram polls - it’s the people, our friends.

And that’s my 20 min!.. until tomorrow.
